macOS Sequoia Printer Compatibility: What Works and What Doesn't (2026)

Check if your printer works with macOS Sequoia. Compatibility list by brand covering HP, Canon, Epson, Brother, Lexmark, and Samsung with fix recommendations.

Before you update to macOS Sequoia, check if your printer is going to survive the transition. Apple has removed more third-party printer drivers in Sequoia than in any previous release, and the impact is significant.

This page tracks which printers work, which don't, and what to do about it.

The Short Version

If your printer was manufactured after 2020 and supports AirPrint or IPP Everywhere, it will probably work fine on Sequoia. If it's older or relies on a manufacturer-specific driver, check the tables below.

How to Check Before You Update

  1. Find your printer model number
  2. Search this page (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F) for your model or series
  3. Check the status column
  4. If it says "Driver removed" and the Fix column names PrintCast Driver, install it before updating; if the Fix column names the manufacturer's software, the printer is an inkjet PrintCast Driver does not cover, and that software is the way

What "Works" vs. "Works Fully"

A printer can "work" on Sequoia while still losing features. Here's the difference:

StatusPrintingDuplexTraysColor MgmtInk/Toner Levels
Full driver supportYesYesYesYesYes
AirPrint fallbackYesSometimesNoBasicNo
Generic driverYesNoNoBasicNo
Not workingNoNoNoNoNo

If your printer "works" but you've lost features, you're likely on AirPrint or a generic driver. On a generic driver, PrintCast Driver restores driver-level printing (duplex, quality, and paper-size options where your printer reports them) for printers without AirPrint that use PCL5 or PostScript. On AirPrint, the printer already prints through AirPrint, and PrintCast Driver lists it as already working with macOS. Supply-level readouts and vendor utility features remain part of the manufacturer's own software.

PrintCast is independent software and is not affiliated with any printer manufacturer — results vary by model, and the free trial lets you confirm your printer.

How to Update Safely

If you've checked the tables above and your printer is affected:

Before Updating

  1. Install PrintCast Driver so your printer is protected during the update
  2. Print a test page to confirm everything works
  3. Note your printer's IP address (for network printers) in case you need to re-add it

After Updating

  1. Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners
  2. Check that your printer is listed and the driver is correct
  3. Print a test page
  4. If features are missing, open PrintCast Driver and click Install on the printer

If You Already Updated

If you've already updated to Sequoia and your printer broke:

  1. Install PrintCast Driver from printcast.app
  2. It lists the printers it finds and restores printing on the ones you install
  3. No need to downgrade macOS

The Pattern Going Forward

Apple removes more printer drivers with every macOS release. This list will grow every September when the next macOS version ships. If your printer works today on Sequoia, it may not work on the next version.

PrintCast Driver is designed to handle this ongoing change. It is actively developed, with compatibility updates as macOS evolves.

The Bottom Line

Check your printer before updating to macOS Sequoia. If it's on the "driver removed" list and the Fix column names PrintCast Driver, install it first; if the Fix column names the manufacturer's software, the printer is an inkjet PrintCast Driver does not cover, and that software is the way. If you've already updated and your printer broke, PrintCast Driver is the fix to try first for a printer that speaks PCL5 or PostScript; an inkjet that speaks neither needs the manufacturer's software.
